Spring Smash ī99

Part 1 of the DEMocontest has started!!!

Descent Dogfight Tactics is looking for the coolest finishing move. We are giving away some cool prices for the best *.dem file. Now at the first part of the competition there will be categories for Descent and Descent 2 (Descent 3 will follow as soon as the Descent 3 Demo editor is available).
All you have to do is to record your skills in multiplayer games. Then edit the *.dem file and cut out the best kill. Take this file stick it together with the level where you took the demo in and compress these files using Winzip.
murdock1.zip ExampledemoThe file murdock1.zip gives you an example how your part could look like. It contains the *.dem file, the level and a small textfile. Unfortunatly the level is quite large.
Feel free to add a *.txt file that contains additional informations or comments on that kill. Of course you can use all the options the Demo Editor offers to create a cool demo.
But pleeeeeaaaaassseeee keep the whole file as small as possible. The example file has just that size (400kb) because of the large contained level. It should really be possible to keep the file below 300 kb. Standard levels that are provided with the original Descent (2) do not need to be submitted. You better try to avoid to use large levels like Vampyro, Orion Nebular Project or Entropy Experiment :)
The *.dem files are compressed with a ratio above 70% using maximum compression. Uncompressed files will be disqualified :-(
In short:
  1. Make some cool kills and record them using Descentīs internal flight recorder. Press [F5] to start or stopp the recording.

  2. Edit the demo file using the DEMo Module on the Descent Manager page (Unfortunaltly the DEM-editor shipped with the "Descent Manger" has some serious problems.
But help is in sight, Heiko Herrmann is working on the DEMOEDIT32 with Windows Interface. Hopefully this nice tool will be ready to download within the next days.

  3. Use WinZip to compress your demo, the level that the demo was taken in and an additional textfile. Donīt forget to mention a contact adress.

  4. Send the whole zipfile to: democontest@kmu-net.de This zip-file contains now 1. level (*.hog, *.mn2 (*.msn)), 1 *.dem file and 1 *.txt file. Please give *.zip *.dem and *.txt file the same name. Try to keep it as small as possible!

  5. If there is still something unclear you can mail your questions to me.

The contest will end on the 31st of March, 22.00 middle european time. The judges will need some time to compare and discuss the contestants and mid April the winners will be found.
When the contest is over the best DEMofiles will be commented and prepared for public download.
Good luck , material Defender

Privacy proposal: I will not give away any information about you except the *.zip file that you have submitted. Any informations contained in the email the zipfile comes with will be kept private.
