Do-it-yourself foot pedestrals

The following images are quite large, sorry for the loading time - but if you want to build these things they are worth waiting for...

This is the selfmade working place of a real Descent-O-Maniac. There are lots of details to have a look on:
- the Joystick is placed between the legs like in a jetfighter
- the throttle is located on the left side, 8 buttons are ready to be used
- the chair was made to carry people to get their teeth fixed - playing Descent in it should be a little more fun...
- the keyboard is hard to reach
- the VRX helmet - due to the lack of resolution there is no need for it in multiplayer games
- you (unfortunatly) canīt see the foot pedals - they are hidden under the monitor
All this stuff works on a very simple technic: the power circuits of the keyboard are connected with simple switches - an old digital joystick (throttle) light switches (foot pedals) or simple switches fixed on or close to the throttle. On the right side is another panel with switches. They are used for other programms that do not need fast actions like Descent.
To rebuild such a system you have to think about the sort of switches:
- normal switches close the power circuit once they are used and open it when pushed a second time. The permanent energy to shield converter is the only use I can think of right now.
- the other sort of switch keeps the power circuit closed as long as you push it down - this is the sort of switch that you need.
These switches are connected with the keyboard and work as parallel switches - you can use the keyboard or use the alternate switch connected to the key.
All in all this is a low cost hardware solution that works with every game - as long as you keep this system open for changes. What you canīt see is that most of the cables have a plug within - itīs possible to reconfigure the switches to different keys. Of course its faster to redirect the keys by software but not all the great games are made as user friendly as Desent...
So have a look how Ingo "Sneaker" Urban roams around to find another victim...
