DCheck is a program that allows you to quickly check the status of any mine, for example, if the level supports Flag and Hoard, number of custom objects, etc.   Download the Win32 version from our Developer Toolkit.

Rbotedit released Tue, 30 Dec 1997 - 6:19am.

Rbotedit is a robot editor that allows you to set the bot information, textures, gunpoints, segments and joint information, for HXM and VHAM format files.  Download it from our Developer Toolkit.

Luke Schneider, the designer for great levels such as The Entropy Experiment, Entropy 2: Vengeance, and many more, has been officially hired by Outrage to design levels for Descent 3!  Congratulations Luke!  You can download Luke's Entropy series levels from our Single-player Levels page.

PMView 2.6, a polymodel (ie, robot) viewer for Descent 2, has been released.   Download it from our Developer Toolkit.

Apogee to market Freespace Fri, 12 Dec 1997 - 6:32pm.

Apogee will have exclusive distribution rights to Descent: Freespace for three months, Apogee president Scott Miller announced today.  It will be available through their website or their direct sales number, until the three months are over, and then Interplay will market it through normal retail channels.  You may remember Apogee almost became distributor for the original Descent, until Parallax decided to go with Interplay.

MS to now back OpenGL Tue, 9 Dec 1997 - 12:16pm.

Microsoft announced today that they will now be fully supporting OpenGL in all current and future Windows operating systems.  This U-turn has surprised many game developers, as MS were formerly trying to push their own Direct3D; they now say the two can coexist.  Game developers (including members of Parallax) in June signed a petition to Microsoft to support OpenGL, it seems it has worked!

Orchid have released new packaged drivers for Righteous 3D Voodoo accelerator cards, version 3.0.  Download them from our Other Files page.

New Kali95 DLL revision Sat, 6 Dec 1997 - 11:21pm.

DLL Revision F for Kali95 1.2 has been released.  This patch adds support for Dark Reign demo and MVP Cribbage, and fixes a problem with Descent 2 for Win95.   Download it from our Kali page.

Acclaim have announced that a fully playable demo of the Descent-clone Forsaken will be available in around six weeks.
