|Voodoo 2 in Australia||Sat, 28 Feb 1998 - 1:41am.|
The first Voodoo 2 card released, the Creative Labs Voodoo Blaster 12MB, won't hit Australian shores until mid-March. When it finally does, it will retail for, get this: the exorbitant sum of A$699! :( Work it out - the CL Voodoo Blaster retails in the U.S. for US$299 - which converts to roughly A$446. Add 22% sales tax, and it comes to A$544. You'd need to add another 28% to make Creative Australia's price of A$699. If you'd like to protest at this outrageous pricing, send complaints to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Australians are advised to order their Voodoo 2s from the U.S. if at all possible.
|D2/Voodoo 2 update||Sat, 28 Feb 1998 - 12:36am.|
D2Voodoo, the original 3Dfx Voodoo version for Descent 2, has been confirmed to work with the Voodoo 2 card, as long as the following environment variables are used:
Without these settings, the colours will be messed up. FPS scores peaked at an amazing 211 frames per second, using two Voodoo 2 cards linked via SLI, on a P2-300 system. :) Thanks to Mac Broughton for this info.
D23DFX, the newer version of Descent 2 Voodoo, as said before, will not work with the Voodoo 2 card. Andy Hanson, a programmer for 3Dfx, is definitely working on a new version of D23DFX which will fix this problem.
You can download the older D2VOODOO version from our Demos and Patches page.
|Descent TC for Quake 2||Fri, 27 Feb 1998 - 3:40am.|

|Descent 2/Voodoo 2 compatibility||Thu, 26 Feb 1998 - 11:58pm.|
It seems that D23DFX, the Voodoo version of Descent 2, does not currently work with the 3Dfx Voodoo 2 card. 3Dfx, Inc have released a list of Voodoo games that don't work with the Voodoo 2, which includes Descent 2, X-Wing vs TIE Fighter, Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries, and eleven other titles. At the time of writing it was not known if the D2VOODOO version was similarly affected. Andy Hanson, a programmer for 3Dfx, is aware of the problems and is apparently working on a fix. Stay tuned for more info.
Editor's note: This problem has since been addressed in the new 3Dfx patch for Descent 2, available on our Demos and Patches page.

|Descent: Freespace press release||Sat, 21 Feb 1998 - 12:40am.|
Interplay have issued a press release regarding Descent: Freespace, which, among other things, confirms an April release for the game. Here's a choice tidbit from the release:
Set in space and featuring ships of staggering proportions, Descent: FreeSpace promises a fast-paced, intelligent universe with unprecedented levels of action, animation and detail. A complex plot and non-linear mission design mean that players will enjoy more depth of gameplay, and level content will vary depending on the player's in-game performance.

Also, Creative Labs are releasing their 3D Blaster 12MB Voodoo 2 card in the U.S. today, with their 8MB version shipping in about two weeks time. There will be no games bundle with the 12MB version (this card is aimed at the hard-core gamers who want minimum price and probably already have the games they want). The 8MB version will have a pack-in bundle, but it hasn't been announced yet. Stay tuned!
