Omega ideas? Fri, 26 Jun 1998 - 11:12pm.

On the most excellent D3 Ramblings page, Jason Leighton, one of the developers of Descent 3, has asked for ideas on how the Omega cannon should work in Descent 3:

I also started on the revised Omega cannon.  Currently I'm just playing around with various ideas, but none have been that satisifying thus far.  Oh well, tomorrow is another day.  If anyone has a nifty idea for what the Omega cannon should do, I'd love to hear about it.   Perhaps it will give us a push in the right direction.

You can email Jason by clicking here.

Volition's new games Fri, 19 Jun 1998 - 5:28pm.

Volition have announced what they are considering for their next few games, now that Descent: Freespace has been released.   They are considering a Freespace add-on disk, Freespace 2, a fantasy role-playing game, and a futuristic racing game.  The racer is reported to be a fair way into development already.  They could also eventually be developing Descent 4, but that may be left up to Outrage, Volition's sister company.  Volition are also looking to hire more people, so if you are a programmer or an artist, head on over to their Job Board.

Apologies Sat, 13 Jun 1998 - 4:47pm.

My sincerest apologies for the stagnation of Valhalla Tower over the last month or so, we have been having problems with our provider.  Specifically, the Frontpage extensions that this news page and the rest of the site relies on to function weren't working, which meant only a major rewrite of the site would have allowed the constant updates you've come to expect from us.  Sadly, I never found the time to do that rewrite, but it's a moot point now, as the FP extensions have been restored.  Things are completely back to normal now, so you can expect regular updates here once again in the future.

FDL debuts Thu, 11 Jun 1998 - 1:35am.

A mailing list, very similar to the existing Descent Developers List, has been set up by HH-Soft of the Descent Network for people interested in developing for Freespace.  Called (originally enough) the Freespace Developer's List, here you can discuss the use of FRED and pretty much anything else to do with developing for D:FS.  To subscribe, simply send an email to with "subscribe fdl your@email" in the BODY of the message (without the quotes, and substituting your own email address).

Another D3 interview Tue, 2 Jun 1998 - 10:51pm.

PC Gamer Online has an interview with Raphael Hernandez, associate producer at Interplay for Descent 3.  Be warned, though, the article contains many outdated facts about the game - for example, the interview states that there MAY be outdoor environments in D3, we now know that there WILL definitely be outdoor environments.  You can check out the article anyway here.
